At the recent Sausalito City Council meeting, residents expressed concerns about the proposed new development at 1 Harbor Drive, the first major project submitted since Measure J opened parts of the Marinship to new housing. We are hosting a Community Forum to discuss the project and share what we know so far.

Key Considerations: Affordable Housing and Local Impact
We support the goal of increasing affordable housing in Sausalito. When voters approved Measure J, many in the community were focused on ensuring new development would help meet that need. Of the 294 units proposed, only 46 are allocated for low- to moderate-income households.
At the same time, projects of this scale represent massive change, and their impacts must be clearly understood and thoughtfully mitigated. Larger developments place real pressure on infrastructure, from roads and sewer systems to emergency services and public resources. In a city with aging infrastructure, these demands are significant.
It should not be the community’s responsibility to absorb or subsidize these costs through our taxes. The City Council must take a proactive role in strengthening impact assessment requirements and ensuring that appropriate impact fees are in place, so developers contribute fairly to the demands their projects create.
Together, we need to ensure these projects deliver quality, affordable housing at the required levels, are thoughtfully designed to fit within the community, and address the impacts on our infrastructure and quality of life.
