As Measure K headed to the ballot, one question kept coming up: how big would the buildings be? Rather than let it linger, SOS pushed for an answer on the record.
A majority of the City Council gave one — a public commitment that came to be known as “Pledge 32”: nothing at MLK Park would rise above the town's 32-foot height limit.
“Measure K legally binds the City: no more than 50 units, primarily for seniors, not to exceed 32 feet in height.” — Vice Mayor Steven Woodside
“We will maintain current building height, and we will not approve a project over 32 feet.” — Council Member Melissa Blaustein
“I am pledging my commitment never to exceed the 32-foot limit at MLK Park.” — Council Member Ian Sobieski
When Measure K passed, that promise gained the force of law — no more than 50 units, the majority reserved for seniors, and not a foot over 32. Human scale, on the record.
