Victory—City Council Denies Appeal for 605 Bridgeway

Protect the Historic District.

Thank You City Council & SOS Supporters

Last night, the City Council voted 4-0 to deny the 605 Bridgeway applicant's appeal. With more than 325 letters and residents in person and on Zoom combined with strong legal arguments from our SOS attorney, we have once again stood together to protect the Historic District.

The Council heard residents’ concerns and upheld the original city staff and Planning Commission decisions to deny the appeal. Thank you City Council.

What Was At Stake
A 50-unit “alternative solution” was proposed this week by the City alongside the original draft resolution to deny the appeal. This alternative would grant the appeal in part, setting the stage for the project to proceed. Our advocacy made sure the City Council did the right thing and denied the appeal.

The Importance of Ordinance 1022
This decision underscored the importance of Ordinance 1022, which protects Sausalito by requiring voter approval for increases in development density on commercially zoned properties. Because voters had never approved the required zoning change, the City was able to show that the higher density claimed by the developer had never actually taken effect. Ordinance 1022 has once again demonstrated why voter approval remains an important safeguard in decisions about Sausalito’s future.

The fight is not over. It is likely that the applicant will pursue further legal action. Stay tuned, you know we will.

Thank YOU again.

With sincere gratitude,
